Morning workout motivation...
There is a lot to be said for being up early and getting the gym out of the way before you're even really awake. It is said it can lead to increased energy through out the day and can make you happier because of the post workout endorphins. You tend to be less stressed throughout the day too as you don't have it on your mind that you are going that evening.
But how do you motivate yourself to get up early for the gym? It isn't easy for many people, especially during winter. We've asked around our staff at The Skinny Kitchen in Bournemouth, Canterbury and Belfast and compiled a list of useful (and interesting!) things they do to motivate themselves for an early workout. Have a read through and use some (or all) when you need motivation to get up early for the gym!
1. Get your clothes out the night before.
“If my gym clothes, headphones and gym card are ready I am more motivated to get out of bed in the morning. It makes it a lot quicker from the bed, to the door and you don’t really know what’s happening as you’re still a bit sleepy”
2. Buy bright coloured gym wear
“I swear by neon coloured gym stuff. I never wear black, or dark colours. Putting on something really bright early in the morning really motivates me!”
3. Listen to some motivational music as soon as you wake up.
“I put some music on quite loud in the morning if I need to get up. Putting on some really loud dance or hip hop music at 6.30am might seem a bit crazy but it definitely wakes me up!”
4. Make a breakfast the night before that you want to get out of bed for
“I love overnight oats so if I want to get myself out of bed I make really nice ones the night before, that I know I wont be able to resist. I put cocoa, honey, peanut butter, banana and chia seeds in for a combination that pretty much makes me run out of bed. Then I’ve got loads of energy for the gym too.”
5. Go to bed a bit earlier
“I cant cope without a good 8 hours sleep so on the days I get up early for the gym I make sure I’m in bed by 10 at the latest. I wake up easily in the morning if I’ve had the amount of sleep I need, and I’m ready to go”
6. Go with a friend
“I only go to the gym early if I can get someone to go with me. I’m useless on my own! I just wouldn’t do it. Luckily I have a couple of friends I know tend to go early so I plan my workouts that week around when they are going!”
7. Sleep in your gym clothes
“Ive honestly done this quite a few times now, I just go to bed in my gym stuff, wake up and leave!”
8. Use social media for ‘fit-spiration’
“I always browse Pinterest and Instagram before I go to bed and look at pages that inspire me to workout. Its then the last thing on my mind at night and the first thing on my mind in the morning”
