Love chocolate...?


We love chocolate, of course, but know it isn't something we can eat all the time. We switch to cacao which has loads of health benefits but there is also another alternative…

Meet carob!

Carob is a really popular alternative to chocolate and it is packed with health benefits too. Here’s why people eat it:

  • gluten free

  • zero caffeine

  • low fat

  • low sugar

  • dairy free (suitable for vegans)

  • free from the migraine triggering compound that chocolate has

Sounding good so far isn't it!

Carob is most commonly turned into flour, giving a similar appearance to cacoa. It is also used to make syrups which will them be made into a product similar to chocolate or put in baked goods or ice cream.

Carob comes from a tree and is grown in little pods, which carries pulp and seeds.

Some health benefits include

  • Lowers cholesterol

Carob naturally contains polyphenols, which help with blood cholesterol levels in a way similar to dietary fibre

  • Rich in calcium

Caron contains a high level of calcium than chocolate. One cup of carob flour can provide around 30% of an adults daily allowance of calcium, essential for keeping bones healthy and strong.

  • Antioxidants

Antioxidants protect our bodies against free radicals and environmental toxins, essential for good health.

  • Fight colds and flu

Carob contains vitamin E and phytonutrients, as well as antioxidants, all which help fight common colds.

  • Lower in calories

Carob contains around half the amount of calories of chocolate.
